REDCLIFFS-MOUNT PLEASANT SUB-CENTRE

Mrs Christopher Fenwick was guest speaker at the July meeting of the Redcliffs-Mount Pleasant sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, held at the home of Mrs H. Worrall, Mouht Pleasant. She related her war-time experiences in the south of England and spoke of the continued hardships housewives and elderly persons were facing. When thanking the speaker, Mrs W. Tisch (the president) referred .to . gifts of tinned food collected locally which would be sent to the Distressed Gentlefolks’ Aid Association, London. Acknowledgement was also made to the sub-centre of its support to the Red .Cross street appeal, and for its help at the hut in Cathedral square. It was reported that a good assortment of new and used clothing had been received and would be forwarded to the centre, and that new material to be made into girls’ clothes was now available. It was announced that arrangements were in hand for the holding of a combined dance next month to aid the Redcliffs-Mount Pleasant Red Cross and the Sumner Plunket Society.
