SANDY LOGAN AND YOURS TRULY

TROTTING

WINNERS AT WAIMATE Sandy Logan and Yours Truly gave good displays when they won their divisions of the Winter Trot Handicap at the Waimate Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday. A consistent pacer with several minor placings to his credit, Sandy Logan, which is trained at Washdyke by P. P. Gallagher for Mr R. Tohill, is a five-year-old gelding by the American-bred Sandydale from Kid Logan, which was bred at Kurow by Mr R. G. C. Munro. A fast pacer with a mile record of 2min 8 2-ssec to her credit, Kid Logan, which left another winner in Central Lass to- Travis Axworthy, is by Logan Pointer from Stanley’s Child, by Stanley from a Highlander mare. A likely improver, Sandy Logan may win in much better company next season. After finishing in fourth place to Te Arawhata, Victory Globe and Sea Craft, in the second division of the Westward Ho Handicap at the Methven Trotting Club's meeting on October 4, Yours Truly, a three-year-old colt, was turned out for a spell and he appeared a much-improved horse when he paraded at Waimate on Saturday, winning from Sure Nut in a manner which indicated that he should soon win again. By the 1941 New Zealand Trotting Cup winner, Josedale Grattan, Yours Truly is out of Ranfurly Lass, which is by Peter Bingen (the winner of the 1928 and 1929 New Zealand Cup Handicaps) from Hal Lady, the dam of a winner at the trotting gait in Silver Plane. By Gold Bell, Hal Lady is out of Lady Hal, by Hal Zolock from Tortulla, by Electioneer from a mare by Specification. Jottings T. Thompson has Emily Volo working well at Riccarton. A five-year-old mare by Lusty Volo from Emily de Oro, Emily Volo gained a win and seven minor placings when trained for her races earlier in the season by L. Davidson at New Brighton. , Rosebeam, which races in the interests of J. Grice, who trains her at Tinwald, showed some ability to finish third to Uranium and Gloxania after being prominent alt the way in the second division of the Glendore Trot Handicap at the Hororata Racing Club’s meeting on January 31. A iour-year-old mare by Gold Bar from Myra Potts, Rosebeam may show up in the Washdyke Trot Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday. Admiral Peterson, which earned £3BO in stakes this season for Mr C. L. Rhodes, is back in work in J. D. Litten’s team at West Melton. A likely improver, he should take a tight mark next season. Track to be Relaid

“The track is ’dying’ and it will soon have to be relaid,” said Mr C. when giving his report of the work of the grounds committee at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club on Thursday. Proposed improvements at Addington include the replacement of the fence on the inside of the track and the grading and laying out in lawn of the area inside the track. Out of Ronakl J. McQuilkin, who trains his team at Hinds, is handling a racy type of filly by Nelson Derby from Ronakl, which is by Rey de Oro from a winner in Glenville, the dam of winners in Paraurl and Ikaroa. Glenville, which was bred at Ashburton by Mr R. McDonnell, is by Oinako from Evelyn, by Rothschild from Imperialism, by Prince Imperial from Shamrock. by Dexter from a mare by Hornby. Racing at Washdyke Red Sea, which has been nominated for, the Washdyke Trot Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday by K. E. Tarrant, who trains him at Temuka for Mr R. G. Laplanche, is a four-year-old gelding by Red Shadow from Harvest Gleam, by Jack Potts from Solon Wrack, the dam of a winner in Man Power. Solon Wrack, which was bred at Ashburton by Mr H. F. Nicoll, is by Wrack from a Huia Dillon mare, which was out of the Imported Solon Gazelle. Californian Record The Santa Anita meeting was ushered out in a blaze of glory with more outstanding performances, says the "Horseman and Fair World,” Indianapolis. For the first time in the history of California, a mile in better than two minutes was recorded. Owner H. H. Johnston consented to send the giant trotter, Rodney, against the watch. He was beautifully rated by Bi Shively and the resulting mile in Imin 58sec is just a fraction of a second off the world’s stallion record of Imin 57Jsec, now held by Spencer Scott, the sire of Rodney. The performance also set a new record for the State. Rodney’s sectional times were:—two furlongs, 29 2-ssec; half mile, 59 l-ssec; six furlongs, Imin 29sec; mile, Imin 58 sec. t • In J. A. Wilson’s Team The Rakaia trainer, A. J. Wilson, is educating a neatly-made three-year-old filly by Swordsman from Fair Warning, which left a good trotter in Forewarned to the same sire. An aged mare. Forewarned, which races in the interests ot Messrs W. Thomson and M. Walker, looked particularly well when she worked at Addington last week, and she may add to her record at the National meeting at Addington next month. Mr G. Lancaster, who owns the filly in Wilson’s stable, also owns a younger brother to her. which attracts attention on looks. At New Brighton

E.- A. Collett’s team at New Brighton includes a likely type of three-year-old gelding in Larikin, which is by Blaydon from Lady Mischief, by Hamel Bey from Pelting, by Huia Dillon from an unnamed mare. New Look New Look has been claimed by Mr J. C. Stevenson (Oamaru) for a filly by Grattan Loyal from Girl Pat. A winner herself, Girl Pat is by Travis Axworthy from a fine performer in Waitaki Girl, which took a two mile record of 4min 22sec. By Harold Dillon from Stanley’s Child, Waitaki Girl left a family of winners, including Red Ranger, Waitaki Power, Fire King, Great Waitaki, PreEminence, and Caledonian Girl.
