OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 16. The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 8 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: an intense anti-cyclone is centred over Tasmania. Pressures are low to the south and east of New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m.: light to moderate variable winds, southerlies predominating. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures cool. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate easterly winds predominating. Scattered showers developing from the south in the morning, but weather later improving and becoming fair by evening; temperatures cool. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and sunny yesterday with a light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 47.8 degrees. The sky was clear at midnight with a very light south-east breeze. The barometer; at 29.944 inches (1014 millibars) was rising unsteadily. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 1 a.m.: nil.
