MORE CHARTER FLIGHTS
I TASMAN AIR SERVICE CONSTELLATIONS AND SKYMASTERS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 15. Whenuapai will be used by Constellation aircraft next month for the first time. Two return flights will be made between Auckland and Sydney to supplement the Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat service. The only previous flights made to New Zealand by Constellations were several charter services to Ohakea earlier this year. I The general manager of Tasman Empire Airways (Mr G. N. Roberts) said the Director of Civil Aviation (Mr A. G. Gibson) had approved of special Constellation services from Whenuapai and two return flights would be made by aircraft, which would be chartered from Qantas Empire Airways. The first would be on August 5 and the second on August 19. The aeroplanes were to arrive at Whenuapai at 7.30 a.m. and leave at 9 a.m. Tasman Empire Airways was continuing its policy of supplementing the regular services with charter flights as the travel situation demanded, said Mr Roberts. There would be 36 trans-Tasman flights next month, and the number of seats available was expected to meet requirements. Flyingboats would continue to run the current time-table of one flight each way daily except Sundays. Trans-Australia Air Lines would provide a return Skymaster charter flight on each Tuesday of the month, the arrival and departure times at Whenuapai to be the same as for Constellations. In addition, three Skymaster charter flights on August 1, 25, and 26 had been arranged with Australian National Airways. Those aircraft would also arrive at 7.30 a.m„ and would leave at 9.30 a.m.
