SALE OF HOUSE REFUSED
—o — LAND SALES COMMITTEE “ ABUSED ” PRICE BID AT AUCTION NOT REDUCED From Our Own Reporter TIMARU. July 15. The purchaser had abused the committee, both orally and by letter, because it would not knock down the price he had bid at auction, said the chairman Of the Canterbury Rural Land Sales Committee (Mr W. H. Nicholls), announcing the committee’s refusal of an application. The application was for approval of the sale of a fourroomed house on 20 acres of land, situated off the Timaru road in the Waimate district,, from Mary Margaret Goldingham. of Levin, to John Raymond Moir, Mr Nicholls said it was proposed by the committee to avail itself of the provisions of the act in refusing the application. Moir said that his application had been dated April 24, 1948, and he had suffered losses by the delays. He also complained that a Government valuation made for death duties had been given at £730, and now two valuers had made the values up to £lllO. The Crown representative (Mr N. H. Rawson) said the delays had mainly occurred between the Rehabilitation Department and the State Advances Corporation, which had refused Moir’s application for a loan to purchase the property.
