PAINT AND TAR ON FIRE
MAN SEVERELY BURNED (P.A.I WELLINGTON, July 15. A drum of spirits which burst into flame at Belwood Bitumen Products, Ltd.. Kaiwarra, Wellington, this afternoon caused a fire which severely damaged the contents of the firm’s concrete premises. The owner-manager, Mr Harry Isherwood, of Belmont, who was mixing paint when the spirits caught fire, suffered severe burns to his face. neck, hands, and legs, and ?hock. He was admitted to hospital, and although his condition was later reported to be satisfactory, it is expected that he will have to undergo an operation.
The flames spread quickly among tar, paint, and kerosene, but the fire was extinguished within half an hour. Dense black smoke, which poured from the building across the Hutt road caused considerable interruption to the traffic. Eight other persons in the building escaped uninjured.
