FRUITERER FINED FOR CARRYING GUN
AFRAID OF BEING ROBBED (P.A.) GISBORNE, July 15. Louie Sun Wing, who was accustomed to carry an automatic pistol under the seat of his lorry because he was afraid of being stopped and robbed of large sums of money on his vegetable run from Gisoorne to Opotiki, was fined £3 by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of having in his possession an unlicensed automatic pistol. Counsel said that in 1945 the defendant was attacked and injured by Maoris. He never had any ammunition for the weapon and had only intended to have it in the truck to frighten any pbrsons stopping him on the road. The pistol was confiscated.
