MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
REMAND ON BAIL GRANTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 15. Arrested by the police yesterday, Bertrand Alexander, aged 25, a painter, appeared before Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of manslaughter, in that he struck Francis Philip Minogue on December 24, 1947, causing his death. On the application of Senior-Detective Callaghan a remand was granted to August 11. Applying for bail, counsel for the accused said that Alexander was before the Court for the first time. He was married and was living with his wife and three young children at Lower Hutt. Senior-Detective Callaghan said the police would not oppose bail, but he submitted that the charge was a serious one. . Bail was fixed at £5OO with one surety of £5OO.
