VISIT TO U.S. THIS YEAR

The Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith, minister of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch, win ■ visit the United States later this year. He has been invited to preach and lecture at a number of file principal Baptist churches and colleges and he also hopes to meet leaders of the ecumenical movement in America. In training for the ministry, Mr Boulton Smith spent seven years in the United States,

THE REV. L. J. BOULTON SMITH studying at the Georgetown College, Kentucky, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville. The president of the Baptist World Alliance, Dr. Oscar Johnson, of the Third Baptist Church, St. Louis, a fellow student, has invited Mr Boulton Smith to preach at his church, which has a membership of 7000. Mr Boulton Smith also intends to visit the Southern Baptist Seminary, where Dr. Hugh Peterson, who was formerly in banking at Ashburton and Christchurch, .is a member of the faculty board. In Kentucky, he will visit the Clear Springs Mountain School, where preachers for the mountain areas are trained, and the Georgetown Baptist College. Dr. M. E. Dodd, a councillor of the Baptist World Alliance, who visited Christchurch a year ago, has invited Mr Boulton Smith to speak at the Shreveport Baptist Church. Louisiana. This church has an auditorium seating several thousands, concert halls, a roof garden, and its own broadcasting station. Mr Boulton Smith will’ also visit the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, Rochester, New York, where another fellow student, Dr. Edwin McNeill Poteat, is president. President of the Baptist Union of New Zealand in 1945-46, Mr Boulton Smith is still a member of the Dominion council, and he is also on the Dominion executive of the National Council of Churches. He is a director of the Christchurch Rotary Club.
