OBITUARY

THE REV. J. A. ASHER (P.A.) NAPIER. March 17. The Rev. John Alexander Asher, whose death occurred to-day in Napier, was a former Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly. He was born in Invercargill in 1864 and was educated at Otago Boys’ High School, Otago University, and New College, Edinburgh. Mr Asher was first appointed _ minister to the Gore Presbyterian Church in 1890. He was for many years clerk to the Hawke’s Bay Presbytery and served as a chaplain in the First World War. In 1919 he was elected Moderator of the General Assembly*, and in 1920 became convener of Maori Missions.
