ELECTED CHINESE ASSEMBLY
MEETING LIKELY THIS MONTH
ELECTION OF PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) NANKING, Mar. 16. Four months after China’s first democratic elections, held last November, the Chinese . Government announced to-day 1623 out of the total of 3045 candidates as duly elected and entitled to take seats in the National Assembly. The Government expects the Assembly to meet from March 29 to April 19, to elect the president and VicePresident of the Chinese Republic. It is generally conceded that Marshal Chiang Kai-shek will in all probability be elected President, officials of the Kuomintang are now discussing methods or nominating candidates for the Vice-Presidency. Some members favour party nominations and others suggest free campaigning.
