MEAT COUPONS
CURRENCY NOT TO BE EXTENDED The currency of meat coupons Which Christchurch housewives nave been unable to redeem because of the shortage of supplies in butchers’ shops will definitely not be extended. This advice was obtained by “The Press yesterday from the office of the Food Controller, Wellington. An officer in Wellington told s reporter during a telephone interview that it was considered that no real hardship had been experienced by the public in Christchurch. Butchers shops had been open, and edible offals and adequate supplies of bacon and ham had been available. Meat, he said, was not a commodity which could be stored like tea or sugar. The real effect of extending the currency of the coupons, the official added, would be that some people would have double their usual quantity of meat this week. No real appeal for an extension of the coupons had been made to the Christchurch branch of the Food Controller’s Office. He advised persons holding unredeemed coupons to regard them as » contribution to the Food for Britain appeal.
