NEW SHIPS FOR PORT LINE By the beginning of 1949 the Line expects to have a further three vessels in service. The Port Vindex, now being converted at Wallsend, is expected to be ready in November; and the Port Brisbane, now building at Wallsend, will be launched in April and placed in service aboiit December, The third vessel—the Port Auckland—is expected to be launched at Hebburn in August, and will be ready for service in January, 1949.

DAYLIGHT TRIPS BY INTERISLAND STEAMERS Daylight crossings to help ease the rush of-traffic at Easter will be made by the inter-island steamers, Hinemoa and Rangatira, on March 25. The Hinemoa win leave Wellington at 7.45 p.m. on the evening of March 24, and will leave Lyttelton next morning after the arrival of the 8.35 a.m. train from Christchurch. The Rangatira will leave Lyttelton on the night of March 24, and will leave Wellington at 8.30 am. next day. It will resume its ordinary running the same evening.
