METTERS (N.Z.), LIMITED DECREASE IN PROFITS A decrease of £B9O to £3196 in the net profit of Metters (N.Z.), Ltd.. Wellington, is shown in the accounts for the year ended December 31. The dividend, unchanged at 6 per cent,, requires £3896, which is £7OO in excess of the net profit. Provision for taxation is £2200 less at £4300 and the carry-forward is reduced*to £7303, agaiftst £BOO3 brought in, after adjustments, including the transfer of taxation over-provided. The directors recommend that the general reserve be increased by £5OOO by transferring £723 from surplus on the sale of properties and £4227 from the profit ’and loss appropriation account. The plant and equipment at Petone had worked far short of capacity, owing principally to a shortage of foundry material, the directors reported. Adequate supplies of materials and labour were still not assured.

RANGIORA

There was a good yarding in all sections of the Rangiora stock sale held yesterday. Pigs were dearer than for some time. On the whole prices were on a par with last week’s rates. Prices Were:— Sheep.—Lambs, 17s 8d to 265. Cattle.—Dairy cattle, £4 15s to £2l. Pigs.—Stores, 395; slips, 255. HAWARDEN

There was a large yarding of 2000 fat lambs and fat ewes at the Hawarden fat lamb sale yesterday. The large yarding was the result of the continued dry weather in the district. Prices for lambs ranged from 28s Id. to 39s 10d,’ and for ewes Id to 24s Id. LORNEVILLE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, * March 18. An improved entry of fat cattle at Lorneville comprised mainly medium and light sorts. Competition was fair for better quality cattle and prices were in keeping with recent rates. Prime mediumweight bullocks made £2l 10s to £23 10s, handy-weights £lB 10s to £2O, lightweights £l4 10s to £l6, good handywseight heifers £l5 10s to £l7 10s, light £l3 to £l4 10s, medium young cows £l4 10s to £l6, lighter £l2 to £l3 10s, aged and Unfinished £8 10s to £lO, Good wethers were included in the full yarding of fat sheep. Most ewes were oVer-Weight ot freezing sorts. Ewes sold fully up to late rates, but wethers Were 2s to 3s a head easier. Heavy wethers made 50s to 52s 6d, good medium-weights 45s to 47s 6d, light 40s to 435, prime hoggets 45s 6d to 48s, lighter 41s to 43s 6d, over-weight ewes and freezing sorts 27s to A small entry of medium to light fat lambs met with fair competition and sold at full export schedule rates.
