VICEREGAL (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 10. This morning the Governor-General and Lady Freyberg paid a visit to the Ross home for old people. Her Excellency paid A visit to the Otago Women’s Club.

Dr E. I. Robertson, M.Sc., Ph.D. (London), has been appointed a senlot geophysicist in the geological survey branch of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. He will be employed in the location of minerals and the investigation of dam sites. Dt. Robefston educated at the Hutt Valley High School and Victoria University College and won a Shirtcliffe Scholarship.—(P.A.)

Dr. H. D. Livingstone, of Christchurch, will fly to Western Samoa on March. 20 to relieve Dr. J. C. Lopdell, chief medical officer, who is - going to the United States as New Zealand representative at a conference on tropical diseases. Dr. Livingstone will be away for several months. Mr A. G. Williams has resigned the secretaryships of the Christchurch Printers’. Engine Drivers’ and Theatrical Workers’ Unions and will enter private employment. Mr Williams resigned from the position of secretary of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee some rhonths a£o. The Very Rev. Professor John Baillie, D.D., D.Litt., S.T.D. (Professor of Divinity, Edinburgh University) passed through Christchurch yesterday morning on his way to Dunedin. With him were the Rt. Rev. A. Cainpbell Grieve (Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Australia) and the Rev. Purves Boyes (a former moderator of the Presbyterian Chiiteh in England). Dr. Baillie will return to Christchurch on April 5, and will address several gatherings.

The resignation of the managingsecretary of the. North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr G, L. Pomfret-Dodd) was received with regret at a meeting of the council of the society last evening. Several speakers paid a tribute to Mr Pomfret-Dodd’s work during the last 10 years as rfian-aging-secretary. Pastor W. E. Battyfe, of Auckland, president of the North New Zealand Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. He was accotefiAnied by Pastor L. V. Wilkinson. principal of the Adventist New Zealand Missionary College, Palmerston North.
