EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE

PUBLIC REMINDED OF ARRANGEMENTS

Apparently some persons did not realise that there were provisions for getting immediate medical services if the doctor they telephoned was away, said the honorary secretary of the Canterbury-Westland branch of the British Medical Association* (Dr. C. L. E. L. Sheppard) yesterday. In a statement yesterday the branch reminded persons of the arrangement by which doctors advise the St. John Ambulance Association of their whereabouts.

The arrangements are plainly stated’ in the telephone directory where doctors’ telephone numbers are listed. If a doctor is wanted urgently the St. John Ambulance Association can give an indication of how long it will take to get a particular doctor, or supply the name of an alternative doctor. The service is continuous and does not just operate at holidays and week-ends.
