TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

MAORI HOME IN FORM Maori Home provided the highlight of the training work at Addington yesterday morning when, working alone in the middle of the track, he paced a mile and a quarter in 2min 44sec, the extra distance he covered making his time equivalent to 2min 39sec on the rails. Maori Home, which was hampered by a strong wind, covered the first two furlongs in 32sec, the half mile in lmin 6sec, six furlongs in lmin 41 2-ss6c, the mile m 2min 12sec, and the mile and a quarter in 2min 44sec.

One of the fastest pacers in commission. Maori Home, which has raced well this season for five wins and four minor placings in 11 starts, will probably have his first start at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting in the J. H. Williams Handicap on the second" day. A splendid specimen of a pacer, Maori Home should have little difficulty in winning his way to cup company this year. As the trestles were out about three sulky widths from the rails, three seconds to the mile should be deducted from times to allow for the extra distance covered. All work was done from moving starts. Aerial Scott In Form

Aerial Scott gave a dashing display to beat Indian Triumph and Pocket Edition after giving them starts of up to 60 yards Beginning quickly, Aerial Scott, covered his first half-mile in lmin 6sec and, after taking the lead, he finished the two miles in 4min 42 2-ssec. Aerial Scott was eased uo towards the finish, covering the last four furlongs in lmin lOsec. The winner of the Grand Final of the Trotters’ Championship at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on February 21, Aerial Scott is in splendid condition and, although he is handicapped to give starts of up to 72 yards, he should be prominent at the finish of the £1250 Stewards Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Indian Triumph, a newcomer to Young’s ‘earn, gained five minor placings in 15 starts when trained by E. N. Kennerley at Te Awamutu earlier in the season. By Indianapolis, Indian Triumph is out of Lucy Triumph, by The Triumph from Lucy Ansell. The winner of two races last season, Indian Triumph will have his first start for Young in the Preliminary Handicap at Addington on Saturday. • County Antrim paced Doonholme over a mile and a half in 3rriin 42sec, the last half-mile in lmin Bsec. After taking 3min 37sec for the first mile and a half of their trial, Turco and Loyal Peter spinted the last lour furlongs in lmin ssec. G. S. Smith has both horses well, and they should earn some of the prize-money at the Easter meeting. . ... Cameronian and Remlap were iet oil with strong work, covering the last halfmile of their trial in lmin lOsec. Cameronian looks well after his spell, and he should soon be ready to win again for Mr L. G. Tisch.

Both Good Grattan Drive set the pace when working over two miles with Jackie Guy in 4min 43sec, the last half-mile in lmin Bsec. Grattan Drive and Jackie Guy, which have both raced consistently this season, should show up in their races at Addington this week. Dundee Sandv, one of the favourites for the A. I. Rattray Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday, worked alone -over two miles m 4mm 35sec, the last half-mile in lmin 6sec. Paced by Jill, Follow Me covered a mile and a half in 3min 26sec, the last four furlongs in lmin Bsec. Great Venture finished too fast for Sure Money, which marred his effort by breaking when the pressure was applied, when working two miles in 4min 47 4-ssec, the last half-mile in lmin 5 4-ssec. If he leaves the mark correctly, Great Venture should prove hard to beat from the scratch mark in the Stewards’ Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Working alone, Aberhall attracted attention to his prospects in the A. I. Rattrav Handicap at Addington on Saturday bv * sprinting the last half-mile of his trial in lmin ssec. A disappointment at the Auckland .Trotting Club’s recent meeting, Aberhall appears to be in excellent condition, and he may race better on the Addington course.

From Cambridge The Cambridge trainer, G. T. Mitchell, worked Mine Host and Lord Brooklyn. A gelding by U. Scott from Hostess, Mine Host created a good impression when he trotted the last mile and a quarter of his trial in 2min 50sec, the last halfmile taking lmin 7 3-ssec. The runnerup to Aerial Scott in the mile and a half qualifying race for the trotters’ championship at the Auckland Trotting Club s meeting on February 14, Mine Host should pay expenses at the Easter meeting at Addington. < Lucky Dan. an attractive chestnut gelding bv Gamble from Rapido, covered the last half-mile of his trial in lmin Bsec. Scotch Music, Mountmellick, and Technique finished together over two miles in 4min 48 2-ssec. the last. half-mile in lmin 9 l-ssec. Acclamation, which has raced well tor a win and four minor placings in her six starts since joining J. Young s team at Addington, was let off with an easy mile and a half in 3min 38 3-ssec. An unlucky runner at her last start at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on February 21. Acclamation should soon win another race. - ... Sandy Duval and Theabelle, which are both well forward, were let off with strong work.

Improving . . . Pre-Eminence, which is now trained at Addirfgton by J. Purdon, pleaded by the smooth manner in which he paced when sprinting the last half-mile of his trail with Bulldozer in lmin 6 l-ssec. Driven by D. Teahen, who trains his team at Pleasant Point, Dalcassian showed some ability in his work at Addington vesterday. A three-year-old gelding by Desmond’s Pride from Mersa- Matruh, Dalcassian is engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. , . , Sahara Queen, which was unable to show her best form in the Timaru Cup at the Timaru Trotting Club s meeting on Saturday because of seasonable troubles, paced Hilda Scott over a mile and a half in 3min 38sec, the last naltmile in lmin lOsec. Hilda Scott, which was giving the pacemaker four seconds start with four furlongs to go, was halt a length away at the finish. A neatlymade three-year-old filly, Hilda Scott is bv U. Scott from Dawn Lorna, the dam of Sir Gaillard, Jollity, Ann Volo and Lady Diane. .. Bonny Scott, which is engaged in the Craven Handicap at Addington on Saturdaj, worked alone over two miles m 4min 35sec, the last four furlongs taking lmin 7 2-ssec. Gallian, a likely improver m D. A Withers’s team, covered the last half-mile of his mile and a half trial in Imm 9 4-a Jottings \ _ Percy Volo lost his chance when he broke at the start of the Temuka Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Ivondale brought his record to two wins and a second in his five starts for the season when he won the second division of the Murihiku Handicap at the Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday for B. Rushton, who trains him at Nightcaps. By Worthy Bond, Ivondale is out of* a Sungod mare. Real Nugget, which is now trained at Te Rapa by M. Stewart, may gain his

irst win for the season in the F. J. Smith Memorial Handicap at the Camfridge Trotting Club’s meeting on Satur-

day. Appreciate, which was allowed to go out 16-16 in the betting, showed some ability to set the pace in the early stages of the Wai-iti Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, but she weakened when the pressure was applied. She should be improved by the race. Meeting of Champions The intense interest which has been created by the meeting of Emulous and Highland Fling, two of the fastest pacers in New Zealand, on the 48 yards mark in the A. I. Rattray Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, prompts the suggestion that the club should endeavour to arrange a match race between these two fine pacers on one of the later days of the Easter meeting. The presence of Emulous and Highland Fling in the field on Saturday is in itself a drawcard, and the contest should 'provide a thrilling spectacle.

Fresh from his trip to Auckland, where he won the second heat of the Pacers’ Championship Qualifying Race No.; 1, of one mile and a quarter, in 2min 39sec, finished second to Knave of Diamonds in 3min 14 l-ssec in the second heat of the Pacers' Championship Qualifying Race No. 2, and won the Pacers’ Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final Handicap in the world's race-winning record time of 4min 12 2-ssec, Emulous will probably carry more support than Highland Fling on Saturday.

A smooth-actioned pacer, HighJand Fling has a brilliant record, his outstanding performances this season including a decisive win over Knave of Diamonds and Loyal Peter in the New Zealand Cup Handicap at Addington in November, a sterling effort to win the mile and a half qualifying race for pacers at Epsom on February 14 in 3min 9 4-ssec, which was only one-fifth of a second slower than the record established by Van Derby at Addington in 1939, and a high-class display to win the Wellington Cup at Hutt Park on February 21 in 3min 28sec for the mile and five furlongs. Emulous and Highland Fling both possess extreme speed and stamina and, in a truly-run race, they should be prominent at the finish of the A. I. Rattray Handicap. Trained at Invercargill

The Invercargill trainer, G. W. Pankhurst. will be represented by Cottesloe in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at Addington on Saturday. A filly, Cottesloe is by Gallant Knight from Probationer, which took a record of 3min 16 4-ssec at the pacing gait. By Wrack from the Wildwood ’aunior mare Our Nurse, Probationei has left winners, including Oregon to Rey de Oro, Night Porter to Quite Sure, and Popotunoa to Grattan Loyal. Going to Perth

Cloverdale has been sold on behalf oi the estate of the late F. J. Smith by H. Matson and Company to a Perth studmaster. An American-bred pacer with a mile and a half record of 3min 24 3-ssec, Cloverdale,.which was foaled in 1934, was imported to New Zealand in 1937. By Abbevale, Cloverdale is out of Fanny Direct, by Braden Direct from Lady Fern C. -by Hedgewood Boy. In Form

Good Review’s consistent record of three wins and three minor placings in his six starts this season entitles him to be sent out one of the favourites for the Speedway Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday. One of R. H. Butterick’s team at Rakaia, Good Review raced well at the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association's trials at Addington on March 2 to finish second to In the Mood in the 3min 36sec class pace. Good Review should be improved by that race, and he should prove hard to catch over the sprint distance in the Speedway Handicap this week.

Dillondale Leased Dillondale, which was successful earlier in the season when racing in the interests of S. A. Edwards, who trained hiin at West Melton, has been leased by T. H. Gunning, who is now training nim at Temuka A smart pacer by Sandydale from First Author. Dillondale will have his first start for Gunning in the Express Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday.
