QUEENSLAND STRIKE
SYDNEY. March 6. The Queensland Parliamentary Labour Party has solidly backed the firm stand by the Premier (Mr E. M. Hanlon) in the industrial crisis. The Parliamentary Labour Party Caucus, after its refusal to see the leaders of the strike yesterday, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Premier and declared that the men should resume work. The railwaymen and watersiders voted at mass meetings to go on with the strike.
The railway strike, which has lasted 32 days, is having increasingly severe effects in Queensland, and is reducing trade with New South Wales.
In Sydney, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr J. Treatt) announced thgt he would move a motion of no confidence in the McGirr Government if it did not ensure that goods were sent to Queensland.
The New South Wales Railway Union’s ban on rail freight between the two States came into operation at midnight last night. Sea trade with Queensland has been held up since last Monday, when the Queensland watersiders and seamen went on strike.
