BANNERETTE WINS AUSTRALIAN CUP

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 7. In winning the Australian cup by half a head from Few Words, at Flemington yesterday, Bannerette recorded the fastest time since the cup distance was shortened to two miles, one furlong and a hait. in 1943. The hot favourite, Sanctus, was well beaten into third place, but his rider. I. Purtell, claimed interference at the three furlongs. The stewards later suspended R.
