DUNEDIN AMATEUR TITLE CENTENNIAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS "The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. March 7. The centennial golf tournament conducted by the St. Clair Club attracted a record field of 115 entrants in the championship events and more than 150 players took part in the various events held on Sunday. There were 70 contenders lor the Dunedin amateur championship title, held by A. G. Sime, who did not defend the title because of indisposition. Of the many visiting golfers, the only one to qualify in the senior championship was G. L. Barker. Hutt, a three handicap player. He was beaten in the first round of match play by the well-known Otaeo scratcn man. A. H. Boyd. The Rangiora player. L. Jamieson, played excellent golf to force his way into the semi-finals of the Otago junior championship. He will meet T. Sime, of St. Clair, on Monday morning. The only surprise in the result of the first round of match play was the defeat of F. W. Dixon. 2 and 1, by the improving St. Clair player, S. Gourley. Dixon headed the list of qualifiers, and was cX“ pected to reach the finals. Results were:— First Match Round.—S. Gourley beat F. W. Dixon. 2 and 1; G. McKay beat A. Jones. 3 and 2; A. H. Boyd beat G. I*. Barker. 4 and 3; H. S. Ross beat C. Nolan. 3 and 2; W. Clayton beat A. J. Vernon, 3 and 2; F. B. •Ferguson beat J. A. McCausland. 5 and 4; J. A. Seoul ar beat D. C. Bennie. 3 and 2; J. N. Lemon beat L. Whinam at the nineteenth. Second Match Round.—Gourley beat McKay, 1 up; Boyd beat Ross, 3 and 1; Ferguson beat Clayton, 2 and 1; Lemon beat Scoular at the twenty-first. Boyd will meet Gourley, and Ferguson will play Lemon, in the semi-finals on Monday morning. The final will be played in the afternoon. The semi-finalists in the Otago junior championship are R. S. Mills (Otago), L. Jamieson (Rangiora), T. Sime, and R. Simpson (St. Clair). CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The qualifying round of the Godby trophy match was played at Shirley on Saturday.
