TEKAPO POWER SCHEME
SITE FOR. DAM NOT , DETERMINED
Excavation for the surge chamber, power house and tail race at Lake Tekapo is in progress, but no work has been done on the structures, according to a report by the City Council’s electricity committee on a visit by members of the committee last month to the hydro-electric power schemes at Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. The report, which came before the council at its meeting last evening, stated that no work had yet been done on the* dam required to raise Lake Tekapo, and it is understood that difficulty had been experienced in determining a site. The report, which also reviewed the progress of work at Lake Pukaki, added that good progress was now being made with the tunnel at Lake Tekapo. which it was hoped would be “holed through” by October this year. Thereafter there would be a substantial job of tunnel lining, in filling the recesses in the concrete blocks, and surfacing the inner face.
