CONSECRATION OF BISHOP
CEREMONY IN AUCKLAND NEXT MONTH (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 16. When the Bishop-elect of Melanesia, the Very Rev. S. Q. Caulton, the Dean of Auckland, is consecrated in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell, on February 2, the ceremony, will be performed by the Primate of New Zealand (Arch-
bishop West-Watson), assisted by bishops from seven New Zealand dioceses. and possibly one from an English diocese.
Dean Caulton will be the eighth Bishop of Melanesia. The first was Bishop J. C. Patteson. who was consecrated in St. Mary’s by Bishop Selwyn in 1861. Assisting Archbishop West-Watson will be Bishops W. J. Simkin, of Auckland. N. A. Lesser, of Waiapu, C. A. Cherrington, of Waikato. R. H. Owen, of Wellington, P. W. Stephenson, of Nelson. W. A. R. Fitchett, of Dunedin, P. A. Bennett of Aotearoa, and if the ship on which he is to return to England does not sail before. Bishop E. S. Woods, of Lichfield.
The selected preacher will be Archdeacon R. Hodgson, of Rotorua.
