OUTBREAK OF PARALYSIS

THREE MORE CASES IN AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND TOTAL NOW 154 (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. One further positive case of infantile paralysis from the central Auckland health district and two positive cases from the South Auckland health district were reported to-day. These cases brought the Dominion total since November up to 154. There were no admissions of either suspect or positive cases to the Auckland Hospital to-day. The addition to the Auckland total arises from the diagnosis of a suspect case already in hospital as positive. The patient is a woman aged 26, who was admitted on Thursday from Papatoetoe. NO NEW CASES IN CANTERBURY There were still only two cases of infantile paralysis in the Canterbury and Westland health district yesterday, according to the Medical Officer of Health (Dr. J. H. Blakelock). The situation, he said, still demanded the utmost care, and the advice of the Health Department should still be observed strictly. One of the two paralysis cases in hospital at Christchurch—the 28-years-old woman—was reported to be making satisfactory progress, but the condition of the boy aged 16 years was still serious. NO CASES IN WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 16. There were no cases of infantile paralysis reported ir. Wellington today. The hospital is still empty of suspected or positive cases.
