FOOD STOCKS IN GERMANY
COLLECTION BY FORCE SUGGESTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, January 16. Mr Hans Bockler, chairman of the Trades! Union Federation in the British zone, told a meeting of food officials from the British-American zone that the British authorities should collect food by force, if necessary, from the German countryside, otherwise mobs would soon storm bakeries and loot farms where, he said, food was hidden, says Reuter’s Dusseldorf correspondent. Mr G. Hughes, head of the food and rgriculture section of the British Control Commission, said there was plenty of meat in the bi-zonal areas to filfull the meat ration if the Germans made collections properly. No special Eritish-American help could be expected during the next critical period. Trade union leaders in Duisberg have reported that 25,000 German metal and chemical workers are on strike in protest against the inadequate food in the Ruhr.
