Colonel Archer Cust, 0.8. E., secre-tary-general of the Royal Empire Society, will visit New Zealand early this year to re-establish contact with the society’s representatives. After serving in the Royal Field Artillery during and after the First World War, Colonel Cust was for many years a political officer in the service of the Government of Palestine under the Colonial Office, before joining the staff of the Royal Empire Society in 1937. In the Second World War, Colonel Cust served in Military Intelligence at the War Office, on the British Army Staff in Washington, and subsequently in psychological warfare with the Middle East and Central Mediterranean Fbrces. • The Rev. Father J. O. Hendren, S.M., parish priest at St. Mary’s, Otaki, has been appointed parish priest at Whangarei. He was at St. Mary’s, Christchurch for several years. The appointment of five non-elective members of the South Canterbury Catchment Board for a term of three years from December 1, 1947, is announced in the latest issue of the Gazette. The members are Messrs W. H. Jolliffe, assistant forester, State Forest Service, Christchurch; J. D. Raeside, pedologist. Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Wellington; T. S. McMillan, chief surveyor. Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch; W. C. Stafford, irrigation officer, Department of Agriculture, Timaru; and J. O. Riddell, irrigation engineer. Public Works Department, Christchurch. Mr A. W. Beideman, a civil aeronautics inspector of Los Angeles, has arrived at Auckland in the Pan American Airways clipper Australia, on a half-yearly inspection of the radio side of airways operation.
