Wellington Butchers— All butchers’ shops in Wellington will be closed from next Wednesday afternoon until the following Monday morning. The Wellington Master Butchers’ Association has decided that, as Thursday is Anniversary Day and as supplies will be difficult to obtain, Friday will be also observed as a holiday. The secretary (Mr W. J. Mountjoy) said that by an arrangement with the Butchers’ Assistants’ Union Thursday and Friday would be compulsory holidays under the award.—(P.A.) Enthusiasts in the Temuka district have been constructing a cattle crush on a farm near Milford for a steer riding contest. More than 100 spectators saw the first practice rides.
