REFUGEES KILLED IN PUNJAB
ATTACKS ON TRAINS (N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, January 14. Hundreds of Hindus and Sikhs are reported to have been killed during a clash between Indian and Northwest Frontier troops escorting refugee trains in the Gujrat area in West Punjab, says the New Delhi correspondent of the British United Press. Only 700 of 2400 non-Moslems in one train reached India. A statement by the Government of India puts the number killed at approximately 1600 non-Moslem refugees. It claims that they were massacred by Pathans. Armed guards fought off the raiders for six hours, ana finally troops arrived to drive them off. There were about 2400 refugees on the train, but so far as is known, only 750 survived. Of this number 150 are suffering from gunshot and hatchet wounds.
