TUESDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) TERM OF IMPRISONMENT Leslie Gordon Alexander Wilson, aged 25, and Russell James Ross, aged 22, both soldiers, who were represented by Mr D. J. Hewitt, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully converting to their own use a motor-car valued at £2OO, the property of Jack Churchill Crew. Detective-Sergeant A. A. Herron said that the accused were members of the regular Army. On December 24, they were in Christchurch, on leave from Burnham, and had a few drinks. They took the car and drove it to Nelson, where they were arrested. Mr Hewitt said that Wilson had been in the Army for eight years and had served overseas. REMANDED Richard Alexander Meiklejohn, aged 19, an Air Force trainee, pleaded guilty to & charge of unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-cycle, valued at £5O, the property of Harald Kean. He also pleaded guilty to stealing the sum of £4 10s, the property of Noel Ralph Chambers. Detective-Sergeant A. A. Herron said that the accused was short of money and, between December 24 and January 4, he stole money left with milk bottles at the State houses at Riccarton. He was caught by the milk vendor, who was lying in wait to find out who was stealing the money. The motor-cycle was taken by Meiklejohn to get back to Wigram, and he hid it behind a fence. He took a detective to where he had left it.

Meiklejohn was remanded to Thursday for sentence, pending a report by the probation officer. James Trevor Morgan, aged 23, a motordriver, was remanded to January 20 on a charge of stealing a wireless set and a bottle of sherry, of a total value of £25 10s 6d, the property of Patrick John Sheridan. He was allowed bail in his

own recognisance of £lOO and one surety of £lOO, or two sureties of £5O each, and ordered to report daily to the police. Robert Frederick Woodstock, aged 24, a labourer, was remanded to January 20 on a charge of stealing a suiicase and contents. valued at £2O, the property of Desmond Lowe. He was allowed bail in his own recognisance of £lOO and one surety of £lOO, or two sureties of £5O, and ordered to report daily to the police. TRAFFIC BREACHES
