TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM

BRILLIANT FINISH BY TAULOCH “The Press’’ Special Service WELLINGTON, January 13. A feature of the trials at Trentham this morning for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting was a brilliant half-mile by the two-year-olds, Tauloch and Air Belle. Of the cup horses, most of whom were allotted serviceable rather than severe tasks. Signal Officer and Royal Tan recorded the best time over seven furlongs. Others who pleased over a sprint distance included Musselman, Palm Bearer, Marilyn,, Stellar, and Blue Trout.

Conditions were ideal, and the outsidi of the course proper and the plough pro. vidcd fast going. On the course proper, Majesty (Hooton) and Niloch (Metcalf) ran five and f half furlongs, the five being ir Imm 4sec. and the last half-mile in 51 l-ssec. Majesty was doing the bettei throughout, and was a length clear at the post.

Marilyn (Nicolson) and Stellar (talker) galloped freely over half a mill in 49 l-ssec, the final three furlongs taking 36 l-ssec. Marilyn was a neck in front of her companion passing the post. The best half-mile was registered by Tauloch (Hojton). Air Belle (K. ’ Ford), aod J. oRy Lass (Wells). They completed We distance in 48 3-ssec, the last three furlongs being run in 36 2-ssec. Ale- Belle led early from Jolly Lass, with Tauloch at the rear, but nearing the post Jollv Lass drew on terms with Air Belle, and Tauloch finished wtih a brilliant burst, and the three went over the line abreast. The feature of the trial was Tauloch’s finishing effort. They kept together throughout, and ran the last half in 52 l-ssec. Showing further improvement, Roval Tan (Eastwood) and Signal Officer (McDonald) were together throughout seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-ssec. The two-year-old Curtana (Clutterbuck) impressed by the easy manner in which she strode over three furlongs in 38 3-5 sec. Blue Trout (Buckram) jumped away Inside the five furlongs and came home from the half-mile in 49 4-ssec. She ran the final three under a hold in 37sec. Prince Coronach (Biggs) was moving short while running an easy mile with Lady Vi (Jago) in Imin 55 4-ssec. They ran the last half in 56 2-ssec. Ann Bridge (Bryce) and Indian Coronet (Bryce, jun.) completed half a mile LU 50_l-ssec. the last three furlongs taking 3« l-ssec. Both did their work nicely on the plough. Magical (McDonald) and Banshee (Barnes) were together throughout five furlongs, the last four being run in 52sec, and the final three in 39sec. Deep Sea (Spratt) and Veine d’Or (McDonald) were on terms at the end of seven furlongs, the last four requiring 53sec. 6

Palm Bearer (Barnes) was a neck ahead of Musselman (McDonald) after running half a mile in 49 4-ssec, the final three furlongs taking 36 2-ssec.

Best Seven Furlongs The best time over seven furlongs was returned by Kartikeya (K. Ford), who completed the distance in Imin 28 l-ssec. He ran the last half-naile in 50 2-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Howe (K. Ford) and Renowned (Hooton) were associated over a mile, run in Imin 46 2-ssec. They ran the last half in 52 l-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. Both galloped well within themselves, although Howe did not work as freely as he has done. Embrolita (Anderson) was restricted to light exercise over two rounds of the plough. She is a six-year-old Australianbred mare by Emborough, the sire of Bemborough. and is now a member of J. Cameron’s team. She showed useful form in Australia last year. 1
