GAY NOTE

GOOD DISPLAYS AT* WASHDYKE

Gay Note created a good impression at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting at, Washdyke on Saturday when, after appearing unlucky in his races, he finished third to King Cobra and Ipso Facto in the Levels Handicap and second to Calendo in the Pareora Handicap. Gay Note began well to follow Crimson Trail in the early stages of the Levels Handicap, but he appeared to be securely pocketed with half a mile to go and it was not until well into the straight that his driver, C. M. Laing, was able to find an opening for him. Once in the clear. Gay Note finished fast, but ha was unable to overhaul King Cobra and Ipso Facto. Paraded in the Pareora Handicap later in the afternoon. Gay Note lost a lot of ground when a mix-up occurred when Ipso Facto fell, and at the end of four furlongs he had 11 horses in front of him. He was still well back approaching the entrance to the straight but, once straightened up for the sprint home, he finished brilliantly to get within a length of Calando.

One of the most likely improvers in his class, Gay Note, which is owned by Mr C. Smith, is by a good performer in Nelsom,Eddy from a winner in Rainstorm, by Frank Worthy from Bell Harvester, by Sonoma Harvester from Rainbow, by Harold Dillon from Stormlet, by Wildwood.
