DISQUALIFICATION OF JOCKEY
SUSPENSION OF J. GARTH INCREASED (P.A.) WANGANUI, January 12. The Wanganui District Committee this afternoon- dismissed the appeal of J. Garth, a jockey, against the sentence of 12 months’ disqualification imposed on him by the judicial committee of the Manawatu Racing Club as a result of a charge of foul riding in the Manawatu Cup on December 20. 'The committee .increased the sentence to two years' disqualification. Garth’s appeal sought alteration of the terms of the suspension to enable him to ride work. Garth was the rider of Arco in the Manawatu Cup, in which he finished second to Gay Stroller. After an Inquiry into alleged interference by Gay Stroller a motion picture of the finish of the race confirmed an allegation that Garth caught hold of Gay Stroller’s reins. A charge of interference against L. J. Ellis, the rider of Gay Stroller, was dismissed and Arco was relegated to third place.
