SECRET BALLOT TO BE HELD
UNION LEVY ON DUNEDIN TRAMWAYMEN (PjA.) DUNEDIN, January 12. Considerable interest has been aroused among Dunedin tramwaymen by the refusal by four members of their union to pay the levy of £1 struck by their branch as a contribution to the finances of the national executive, in recognition of its services in gaining higher wages and improved conditions for tramwaymen. The union, at its annual meeting yesterday, decided unanimously to endorse the branch executive’s motion that a secret ballot of all members on the imposition of the levy be held on January 21. The president of the Transport Workers’ Federation (Mr W. E. Richards) was re-elected president of the branch union for the tenth year in succession.
