INDIANS SCORE WELL AGAINST TASMANIA LEAD OF 47 RUNS ON FIRST DAY (Rec. 8 p.m.) HOBART. January 11. The Indian cricket team should score an outright win against Tasmania. At stumps in the first day s play it was 47 runs ahead, with eight wickets in hand. Amarnath, who had not made a big score since he played in November against Queensland, opened cautiously, and added 140 runs for the third wicket with Hazare. Amarnath, chasing his century in the last over, nearly played the last ball on to his wicket.* Amarnath surprised by winning the toss and sending Tasmania in, but his policy was justified.
