NEGOTIATIONS ON INDONESIA
REPORT OF POSSIBLE CRISIS BATAVIA, January 9. Unless a compromise on the ceasefire plans and political principles was reached before next week, the Indonesian negotiations sponsored by tha ; Security Council’s Committee of Good Offices would be in danger of collapsing, it was learned reliably in Batavia to-night. The possibility of the dispute being referred back to the Security Council or the Dutch reasserting their freedom of action, as they did just before the police action, would then face the Good Offices Committee. The climax in the present situation, which was described to-night by the Dutch News Agency Aneta as “critical,” is expected on Sunday, when the Good Offices Committee will fly to Jogjakarta. The committee to-day broke its silence about the progress of the negotiations, and said that it would complete the discussions on its latest informal suggestions to the parties when it met the Republican Government at the week-end.
