LORDS’ JUDGMENT ON MARRIAGE
CATHOLIC CHURCH’S REPUDIATION (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, January 10. The Archbishop of Westminster (Cardinal Griffin) to-day repudiated the declaration of the Lord Chancellor (Lord Jowitt), in a House of Lords
appeal judgment, that marriage was not necessarily for the procreation of children, nor did this appear to be the principal end of marriage. Cardinal Griffin told the Catholic Parents’ Association that Roman Catholic theologians’ common teaching was that contraceptive intercourse, whether with the aid of instruments or not, was not the consummation of marriage.
