BRITISH PACIFIC AIR SERVICE

FOUR SKYMASTERS TO BE BOUGHT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 10. Four Skymasters, two from Australian National Airways and two from Trans-Australian Airways would be bought by British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines when it took over the Australia-New ZealandNorth America service on April 21, said New Zealand’s representative on the board of directors of B.C.P.A. (Sir Leonard Isitt) when he returned by air from Australia.

Sir Leonard Isitt explained that the service had been operated by the pri-vately-owned Australian National Airways under a charter from his organisation, which had .no aeroplanes of its own to carry on the service. The charter service had been carried on very ably but B.C.P.A. felt that it would be ready to undertake the task itself by that date because aircraft were being bought in Australia. There was no need for the airline to ask for dollars to buy them, added Sir Leonard Isitt. The aeroplanes would be named after the four ships commanded by the Pacific explorer, Captain James Cook —the Endeavour, Resolution, Adventure, and Discovery. They would be each equipped with special “sleeperettes,” which provided for more comfortable travelling. Apart from that they would have no special modifications.
