ERECTION OF STATE HOUSES FAVOURED A man whose application for a State house at Levels had been made with the approval of the Primary Production Council nearly four years ago, had not yet got his house, said Mr W. H. Orbell. when a circular letter from the general secretary of Federated Farmers (Mr D. L. M. Martin) was discussed at a meeting of the Timaru-St. Andrew’s branch of Federated Farmers at Timaru on Friday. ~ _ , The letter stated that the -Royal Commission on the sheepfarming industry had asked Federated Farmers to circularise its branches concerning the number of State houses required in particular rural areas for farmworkers, and the location suggested for these houses. Mr Orbell said that approval of the erection of the house at Levels had been given .by the Primary Production Council, so that the man could start a poultry farm in the district. He had sold his own house, and was now living in a railway waggon. Other members cited cases of men living in houses in the country and who travelled into towns daily to work.
