CANCER CURE CLAIMED

78-Year-Old Man In Sydney

hundreds of persons TREATED

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ‘SYDNEY, January 6. f pending an official examination of .his methoas and claims that he can •cure certain forms of cancer, Mr John Braund. aged 78, of Sydney. continues ;to treat sufferers who are flocking to his modest suburban home. The latest of Mr Braund’s cases to receive publicity was that of a Melbourne Roman Catholic priest from whose neck Mr Braund removed a cancer root before seven non-medical witnesses. The witnesses were another priest, Mr C. C. Lazzarini, a New South Wales member of Parliament an estate agent, two women, and a “Sunday Sun’’ reporter and photographer Twelve months ago, a doctor removed two black moles from the side of the priest’s head. Last Easter a Jump appeared in his neck. The doctor thought it was a cyst, and took it out with a local anaesthetic. In August two more lumps developed, and again the doctor operated and removed them By December, the lumps' were 'there again, and two doctors diagnosed the priest's condition as a clear case of sarcoma, a type of cancer. One doctor said there was nothing to be done and told the priest he had only a short time to live. The priest decided to give up all hope of a cure and carry on his work as long as he was able When he came to Sydney he did not want to go to Mr Braund. He felt too ill. He was persuaded by other priests. Mr Braund gave the patient one injection and constant dressings to his neck for a week. On Wednesday he removed the cancer root. Immediately the root was removed, it was placed in a jar of spirits which Mr Braund displayed to the witnesses. After the operation, the patient’s neck felt tender. He said he felt as though he had just had a tooth extracted. He will be given another dressing by Mr Braund. who will then show the priest how to dress his own wound. The two doctors in the priest’s home State want to examine the sore when he returns. They told him that after a few months, if it becomes certain the cancer will not grow again and they are convinced of a cure, they will do their utmost to secure recognition for Mr Braund. The priest will stay in Sydney for several weeks. M.P.’s Description Mr Lazzarini made the following statement: “I accompanied the priest into Mr Braund’s room. I saw Mr Braund remove the pad from his neck. He then got a pair «of strong pliers, took hold of what he termed to be the core of the cancer, exerted some degree of pressure, lifted it right out, and put it into a bottle of spirits.” Mr Braund said he thought the doctors should accept the priest as a test case because there was no doubt that cancer had been established in the first place. Hundreds of persons have sought treatment from Mr Braund since his claims of cures were first publicised. Some cases he refuses to treat, but many of those he has treated had previously had operations. He says he injects a lotion in the cancer, but refuses to disclose his formula until a panel of medical experts has witnessed and tested his methods. The New South Wales Minister of Health, Mr A. Kelly, has written to Mr Braund informing him that the Direc-tor-General of Health (Dr. E. S. Morris) will call on him in the near future to discuss the matter. Mr Braund’s methods and formula were not a sudden discovery. He said he had been called before the Cancer Research Board in 1933. but nothing was done. Whatever the finding of the professional panel, hundreds of people claim that Mr Braund has cured them of cancer.
