The Persian Parliament has passed a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister, Ghavam Sultaneh (above). According to procedure Ghavam Sultaneh must now resign. After claiming that he had saved Persia from the danger of an uprising in Azerbaijan, Ghavam Sultaneh told the Assembly that he had uncovered a well-organ-ised rebel plot in north Persia. “It is a pity I cannot reveal alarming secrets,” he said.—Teheran, December 10.
