VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 11. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral (Sir Bernard Freyberg) and Lady Freyberg. attended by. Flight Lieutenant Michael Cole, returned to Wellington this afternoon.

Mr H. S. Whitehouse has been elected chairman of the London board of directors of the New Zealand ShipSing Company, Ltd., _ and Mr F. E. armer, C.M.G., deputy-chairman. This was announced yesterday by Mr John Deans, chairman of the flew Zealand board of the company. Both appointments will date from December 1.

,_The W. Trevor Williams, M.8.E.. vicar of Belfast-Burwood, has been appointed vicar of Avonside to succeed foe Rev. W. S. Southward. Mr Southward has been appointed general secretary of the Board of Missions, Wellington.

A ballot for the position of secretary of the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, in place of Mr J. Flood, resulted in the election of Mr J. D. Sargentina. There were two candidates. Mr J. H. Martin, 8.A., a member of the staff of the Canterbury Education Board, has been appointed lecturer in geography at the Auckland Teachers’ Traimng College by the Auckland Education Board. The Rev. C. W. Duncumb. E.D., of Timaru, second class chaplain to the forces, has retired after 45 years of active association with the Military Forces of New Zealand and Great Britain.

Mr H. Kitson was nominated to represent the Waimairi County Council on the Museum Trust Board, at a meeting of the council last evening.
