WEAPONS IN ANOTHER WAR
GENERAL KENNEY’S * WARNING
(Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 8. In the event of another war, weapons which appear to be more efficient and cheaper than the atomic bomb would be used, said General George Kenney, Chief of the Strategic Air Command, addressing the Michigan post of the Army Ordnance Association at Detroit to-night. The atomic bomb would be a factor, but there were plenty of other weapons more efficient and easier to produce in quantity.
Describing the Air Force's present bombs and guns as obsolete. General Kenney said: “In the armament field it looks as tbough we have to start all over again. Our bombs are $ll obsolete. For new high-speed aircraft the present boffib shapes are so poor Sexio* dynamicglly that no one knows where they would hit if released at modern speeds. They would simply tumble all over the sky, shedding fins and possibly detonating themselves by the violence of their own gyrations if dropped from a bomb-bay at a speed of about 600 miles an hour.” He added that the rate of fire of aircraft guns must be doubled and radar range greatly Increased.
