COMMUNISTS
Sir,—l am sorry if I contributed to misrepresenting Mr Gerard, in my reply to “A.W.” I understand now that Mr Gerard does not himself approve of the deportation of Communists but wished to discover the Government’s attitude in the matter. I do not believe that every member of the Labour Party would approve of deporting Communists, merely because they are Communists. If a Communist, or anyone else, acts In a way to cause injury to the community then it may be the Government’s duty to take action against him; but not for his political opinions only. I wonder why “A.W.” seems more angry with me than with the Communists.—Yours, etc., G. F. SEWARD. December 8, 1947.
