PETROL SAVING
Sir,—l picked up “The Press” this morning and almost the first report I read was that the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews). Mr Feast, and several other civic dignitaries left by car today for a conference in Invercargill. What is wrong with the train? What incentive have we private motorists to try to save a gallon or two if this is the sort of example that the head of the city shows us? It almost makes me cancel my train ticket to Blenheim and take my car instead.— Yours, etc., WOMAN MOTORIST. December 2, 1947. [He had been so fully engaged on City Council business that he had not found it possible to catch the train and had been forced to go by car to the conference, said the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) when this letter was referred to him. Mr Andrews added that he had saved many gallons of petrol during the last six years by using his own small car instead of the mayoral car.]
