GRANTS TO CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS DISTRIBUTION OF £16,030 From Our Own Reporter ' ~ WELLINGTON, December IQ. Christmas grants totalling £16,030 will be made to charitable and philanthropic institutions in New Zealand from the surplus profits of art unions The grants, which were announced tonight by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry) range from £25 to £lOOO. The New Zealand Crippled Children Society and the Order of St. John will each receive £1000; the Wellington District Free Ambulance, £500; the Homes of Compassion (Silverstream and Island Bay), the Smith Family (Wellington), the Superior Council of St. Vincent de Paul, the Federation of New Zealand Societies for the Prevention Of Cruelty to Animqls, £3OO each: the Auckland City Mission, the Children’s Rest Home, Dunedin, the Leper Nursing Sisters’ Rest Home, the national committee of the Apostleship of the Sea, St. Joseph’s Home, Auckland, the Otaki Family Camp, and the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association for the relief of former Imperial servicemen and their dependants, Wellington, £250 each. Grants made to institutions in the Christchurch district are as follows: Cholmondeley Children’s Home, £100; Christchurch Crippled Young Men’s Club, £100; Christchurch League for the Hard-of-Hearing £5O; Canterbury Women’s Institute, helpers’ scheme, £5O; Cashmere Sanatorium, £150; “Friends of the Hospital,” Christchurch, £100; the Home of the Good Shepherd, £150; Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Hospital Comforts’ Fund, £5O; Mid-Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes. £5O; Nazareth House Sydenham, £150; Prison Gate Mission, Christchurch, £5O; Red Cross Society, Christchurch, £100; Society for the Protection of Women and Children, Christchurch, £75; St. Joseph’s Boys’ Home, £100; Sunnyside Mental Hospital, including the Templeton Farm Institution), £5O; Christchurch Painters’ Industrial Union of Workers' hospital comforts’ fund. £5O; British Sailors’ Society, Lyttelton, £75: special relief for old age pensioners and others in Christchurch, £200: North Canterbury Federation of Women ’s Institutes, £5O.
