SUMMIT ROAD RESERVES

TRANSFER TO CITY COUNCIL AREA OF 400 ACRES INVOLVED reserves in the Summit road area of a total area of approximately 400 acres, are to be taken over by the Christchurch City Council from the Lands and Survey Department. The reserves include the Summit road rest houses Sign of the Kiwi, and Sign of the Bellbird, and the sum of £2500 is io be paid to the City Council for the renovation of the rest houses, which ar e a of disrepair. Negotiations for the City Council to take over the reserves have been in nrogress for some time. Originally the Lands and Survey Department offered to make a payment of £2OO to the City u t the council asked for L2OOO if it assumed responsibility for the reserves. Some of the land is now leased for grazing, and will probably continue to be used tor that purpose. At present the City Council controls about 200 acres of re‘serves in the Summit road area, including 186 acres in Victoria Park.
