A deep depression east of the South Island is moving south. Forecast: south-west winds, still fresh near the coast, light or moderate elsewhere. Weather cloudy and cold, with occasional showers still likely near the coast. Further outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate south-west winds. Weather fair. Temperatures moderate. Further outlook: fair. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cold with light showers and a strong south-west wind.
