The weather forecast tor Canterbury issued at, 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time e* issue, is as follows: Situation: there is a ridge of high pressure from Queensland to south of New Zealand. A deep depression east of the South Island is moving south. Forecast: south-west winds, still fresh near the coast, light or moderate elsewhere. Weather cloudy and cold, with occasional showers still likely near the coast. Further outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate south-west winds. Weather fair. Temperatures moderate. Further outlook: fair. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cold with light showers and a strong south-west wind. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and there was a light south-west wind. The baroiheter at 2S.9in (1012.5 millibars) was steady.
