COACH NOT AVAILABLE J. H. PARKS UNABLE TO VISIT CANTERBURY Mr J. H. Parks, the English professional cricket player, will not come to New Zealand this season because of travelling difficulties, according to a cablegram which has been received by the Canterbury Cricket Association. Parks coached in Canterbury last season and was responsible for a general improvement of the province’s cricketing standard. Mr I. B. Cromb will coach the 12 young players who have been selected as Canterbury colts. Those selected are:-*—G. G. Coull, J. Reece, M. Poore, D. O'Malley, P. O’Malley, R. Hitchcock, W. Pollitt, F. B. Smith. J. F. Collins, M. Chapple, and one other. Two other English players, L. Townsend of Derbyshire, and F. Dennis, of Yorkshire, whom the association hoped would be able to accept part-time engagements in Canterbury this season, have also found it impossible to come to New Zealand. Dennis has not yet been released from the military forces in Germany. It is expected, however, that they will be available for the next season.
The system of coaching in Canterbury will be discussed by the association soon. As part of the present scheme, the colts’ team is scheduled to play matches against country elevens.
