SNOW IN NORTH ISLAND
TELEPHONE LINES BROKEN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 2». There was one of the heaviest falls of snow of the year early this morning on the central plateau of the North island. There were falla of eight inches at National Park and nine inches at Raetihi and Ohakune. The snow thawed rapidly in bright morning sunshine. Snoiy again fell to-night throughout the area, Interruptions were caused to tele, phone communication between Auckland and Wellington early to-day. and at one stage to-night only two of the 15 lines between the cities were open. Breaks through snowfall in the Oha, kune area resulted in delays in long, distance calls, but work by repair gangs increased the number of available lines later. No delays to trains have been reported.
