DRAMA FESTIVAL
CHRISTCHURCH WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Members of Women’s Institutes in the Christchurch group are no longer content to. produce plays solely for the entertainment of fellow members. They' give the public a chance to enjoy their talent at least once a year. La§t evening the fourth annual drama festival of the Christchurch Institute was opened. The entertairtment will continue again this evening. It was evident that not only a great deal of hard work, but also a .great deal of enjoyment had gone into the preparation of the plays. The plots in the main were fairly slight but amusingly presented, and almost all the players remembered the importance of their lines being heard by the audience; a fact which is often overlooked by much more experienced players. To the producers, Tnost of whom also took part in the plays, must go much of the credit for the careful casting which was often evident, and for the competent way. in which each of the plays was presented. The producers were as follows: MeSdames M. Cade (“The Rest Cure,” presented by the Burwood Institute), E. McKenzie (“Far Above Mairehau), M. Mauger (“The Doctor’s Patients,” t Sumner), I. Mclntosh' (“Gran Plays Trumps,’’ Christchurch Centre), I. Chaplin (“Amelia Obliges,” Bryndwr), W. Meldrum (“Every Prospect Pleases,” Mount Pleasant). The last-named play and four others will be presented this evening. The iponey raised from the entertainment will be divided among the institutes taking part, and the Canterbury Federation.
