“The Press” Special Service TIMARU, October 28. Most of the 80 head of fat cattle at to-day’s Temuka sale were of outstanding quality and values were very firm on the excellent rates at recent sales. Prime fat steers made £26 to £3l 17s 6d, medium £22 to £25 17s 6d. prime fat heifers £l6 to £23 17s 6d, heifers £l2 to £l5 17s 6d. extra prime fat cows £lB to £2O. 17s 6d. prime cows £l4 to £l7 17s 6d, light to medium £7 to £8 17s 6d, runners to £2B 17s 6d, bulls to £9 15s, yearling steers and heifers £8 2s 6d to £9 15s, two-year steers and heifers £l3 10s to £l5 15s, calves to £6, springing cows £l4 to £l6 ss. Values for the two races of fat sheep were down 2s 6d a head. The few store sheep offered met firm competition. TINWALD There was a sharp decline in the value of fat ewes, compared with the prices obtained at recent sales, at the weekly stock market at the Tinwald yards yesterday. The decrease was estimated to be as much as 6s to 7s a head. Wethers also depreciated in value. There was an average yarding of ewes, but only a small yarding of wethers. Shorn ewes realised up to 22s for lightweights, from 23s to 25s for mediumweights, from 26s to 29s 6d for prime quality, and from 30s to 32s 6d for extra prime quality. Extra prime shorn young ewes sold at from 32s to 35s lOd. On account of the Estate of G. K. Fletcher (Maronan), seven shorn young ewes were sold at* 35s lOd. Sixty-one ewes in wool were sold on account of S Robinson (Methven) at 36s lOd to 48s 7d. Shorn wethers brought from 37s to 40s for mednun-weights, from 40s 6d to 45s 6d for prime > quality, and from 46s tc 49s 4d for extra prime quality. H. R. Tasker (Ruapuna) sold two at the top, price. H. M. Greenaway (Eiffelton) obtained 39s Id for two spring lambs. A steer sold at £l7 2s 6d, and a heifer at £l2 12s 6d. LORNEVILLE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 28. Fat cattle and fat sheep yardings showed an improvement at the Lorneville sale to-day. The fat sheep were mainly ewes wethers sold on a firmer market, prices for maiden and good quality ewes were unchanged, and prices for medium and inferior wire easier. Medium-weight woolly wethers made 65s to 725, handy-weights 58s to 635, lightweights 50s to 555, unfinished 48s to 48s 6d, prime shorn wethers 56s to 60s, lightweights 48s to 545, unfinished 42s to 455. good maiden ewes 50s to 565, medium 44s to 48s, average butchers* ewes 37s to 40s. lighter 33s to 355, unfinished 26s to 30s. shorn medium maiden ewes 35s to 40s, lighter 29s to 335, unfinished 22s to 245.
